John Schroy

U.S. Veteran

John Schroy, age 70, of Shelbina, MO, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Salt River Nursing Home in Shelbina.

He was born October 14, 1942, in Dayton, OH, the son of Lloyd Felton and Georgia Kostoff Schroy. On November 25, 1967, he was united in marriage to Myrna Peak at Shelbina, MO. She survives.

John is also survived by two sons, Jerry W. Schroy and wife Diana of Keller, TX and Scott D. Schroy and wife Patty of Garland, TX; five grandchildren, Catherine Alaina Schroy, Samantha Paige Schroy, Allyson Nicole Schroy, Hanna Marie Schroy and Dorothy Michelle Schroy; one brother, Jerry M. Schroy and wife Barbara of Baldwin, MO; two sisters, Mary Beck and husband John of Sunbury, OH and Kathryn Schroy of Columbus, OH and other special “familihood” including Wayne and Marcia Benedict, Harley and Charla Funk, Roger and Connie Schwieter, Learel and Elke Peak and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was a graduate of West High School in Columbus, OH and attended college in Dallas, TX. He was a member of the Shelbina Christian Church and has served as elder, deacon, choir singer and Sunday school teacher at four Christian churches. John served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war. He sang with the Vocal Majority Barbershop Chorus for ten years in TX. John was on the Rowlett, TX, Planning and Zoning Commission, city council and served as mayor for twelve years. He was a PTA member, helped with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and was a member of Rowlett Singers for five years. He sang with the Shelbina Community Choir. John enjoyed his family and adored his granddaughters and cherished the time he spent with them.

Funeral services will be held at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina on Friday, March 8, 2013, at 10:00 am with burial to follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home in Shelbina on Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Christian's Children Ranch, Shelbina Christian Church or Shelby County Senior Citizens.
