Catherine Fouts, age 85, of Shelbina, MO, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, MO.
She was born June 23, 1927, at Atlanta, MO, the daughter of Lyle and Mary Effie Tate Mettes. On December 20, 1944, she was married to Marvin Fouts at Shelbina. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1990.
Catherine is survived by one daughter, Marvyda Wear and husband Junior of Shelbina, MO; two grand-children, Kevin Wear and wife Mara of Kansas City and Chamane Gregg and husband Gordon of Shelbina, MO; one great-grandson Christian Reynolds of Kirksville, MO; three step-great-granchildren, Chance, Codie and Clinton Gregg; one sister Doris Lyons of Moberly, MO and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two infant children and one brother-in-law, Chester Lyons.
Catherine attended Shelbina High School. She became a member of the First Baptist Church in Shelbina in 1956, where she served as 5 year old Sunday School teacher for more than twenty years and taught Bible School and Sunbeams. She loved telling them about Jesus. She was also a member of the Women’s Missionary Union. She worked as a clerk at several stores in Shelbina. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, cleaning and helping others. Catherine’s family was the joy of her life and she loved spending time with them. She was a loving, caring, compassionate wife and mother, but she did believe in discipline and hard work. Funeral services will be held at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, MO, at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 9, 2013, with burial to follow in Shelbina Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home in Shelbina from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2013. Memorials may be made to the Dr. David Jones Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church or Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
